Free Food, Good.

3 Jul 2008

The Calgary Stampede officially kicks off on Friday with a massive parade, complete with a CS Queen and Princesses.  It’s ten days of rodeos, cowboys, midway rides, music (no, it’s not just country music–there are rock bands like Hedley stopping by), fireworks, deep-fried goodness, and–the best part-free food!  Businesses and non-profit organizations all over the city will be serving up pancakes, eggs, sausages, and bacon or beef on a bun, beans, and corn on the cob FOR FREE.  😀

If you’re in the downtown Calgary area, I’ve put together a little schedule to keep you fed all week:

  • Monday: Sunlife lunch
  • Tuesday: Petro-Canada lunch
  • Wednesday: Imperial Oil breakfast
  • Thursday: Shell/Canterra breakfast
  • Friday: Fifth Avenue Place breakfast

Hy’s, a high-end steakhouse, used to do a steak lunch on Wednesday afternoons in support of the Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Society (yes, the hot firefighters do stop by to sell calendars and flirt outrageously), but they’re still closed for construction this year.  😦
