Geekiness Unleashed: My Must-see Movies of 2009

5 Jan 2009

I only watch four movies in theatres per year because I’m anti-social, cheap, and simply too bloody busy.  Thus, I have to be very careful with my viewing selections.  Being a geek who loves to watch things blow up, I like to combine my two favorite genres: science fiction and action adventure.

The adaptation of one of the best comic books evah by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.  In an alternate 1985, when an ex-superhero is murdered, a vigilante named Rorshach begins an investigation into the murder, which begins to lead to a much more terrifying–yet predictable (c’mon, it’s a twist most people should spot from a mile away!)–conclusion.

Let’s hope FOX doesn’t eff up the release of this movie since they are suing Warner Bros. for alleged copyright infringement.  FOX sat on the rights for TWENTY YEARS, waited for Warners Bros. to spend $120 million to make the movie, then said, “Wait, we own the rights to Watchmen and now that you spent all the money and done all the work, we want a cut of the revenue.”  Legal?  Yes.  Ethical?  No.

And, of course, if the movie sucks, then Alan Moore, who doesn’t support the project, will be smirking and saying, “I told you so.”

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

I don’t need to explain this selection; just read my review of the first movie. And, oh yeah, Soundwave’s going to be in this one.  🙂 No trailers, yet, because Michael Bay is such a tease.  😦

It’s an animated film produced by Tim Burton.  It’s a twisted tale about a bunch of rag dolls trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world.  I’m sold.

Terminator Salvation

T3 sucked, but if anyone can salvage this franchise, it’s Christian Bale.  It’s 2018 and humanity is battling Skynet. And this John Connor, even though he is not yet the leader of the human resistance, is so much better than the first three John Connors. (I’m so shallow.)
